    The Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM) announced a five-year, $15 million Full-Service Community Schools (FSCS) grant to provide extensive mental health services, expanded early childhood education and access to high-quality afterschool learning and enrichment programs in partnership with Districts 3 and 7.

    Supported by Movement 2030, Re:Degree specifically supports the reenrollment and degree-completion of the-nearly 48,000 adults across Spartanburg County who have some college experience but no degree.

The new funds will enable SAM to support the creation of cradle-to-career model in Union County, while also granting funds to local Union County based direct service providers serving youth and families, and deepening no-cost professional training for local educators.

  • USC Upstate Announces Greater 2030

    SPARTANBURG — USC Upstate plans to expand its academics — enrollment, degree programs and graduation rate — and physical presence.

    The University of South Carolina’s campus in Spartanburg unveiled the plan, dubbed “Greater 2030,” on March 18 at a USC Board of Trustees meeting in Columbia. Chancellor Bennie Harris said the plan’s name references its shared goals with such local organizations as Spartanburg Academic Movement and OneSpartanburg that seek to better the region.

  • Movement 2030 Investment Allows SCC to Boost Enrollment, Degree Completion + Re-Engage Adults

    Spartanburg Community College (SCC) is taking innovative steps to boost enrollment in higher education and workforce training as part of Movement 2030, an unprecedented community-led initiative in Spartanburg County to promote economic mobility.

    Through an initial strategic investment of $1.3 million, SCC will increase the capacity of its dual enrollment program, establish new pilot programs to encourage degree completion, and re-engage Spartanburg County’s large population of adults with unfinished degrees.

  • Converse University to Target Adult Learners + Veterans

    Converse University will revitalize its long-standing program for adult learners and enhance its veteran services, all thanks to a partnership with Spartanburg Academic Movement’s newest philanthropic endeavor, Movement 2030. As one of 30 business, university, and nonprofit partners included in Movement 2030, Converse has been entrusted with more than $1 million in philanthropic funds, including a direct award from the Spartanburg Academic Movement and an impactful sub-award from OneSpartanburg.

    Converse President Boone Hopkins, Ph.D. said the University is honored to be a trusted partner in this worthy effort. “With these funds,” he said, “Converse will focus on advancing economic mobility and career readiness by increasing adult re-engagement and degree completion and expanding services and support to veterans – all helping Spartanburg be a community where everyone thrives.”

  • SMC Launches New Online Degree Program to Attract Adult Learners

    Spartanburg, SC – Spartanburg Methodist College (SMC) is launching a new online bachelor’s degree that provides a clear path to a degree for adult learners who want to return and finish their college education.

    SMC developed the Bachelor of Arts in General Studies to help OneSpartanburg, Inc.’s Re:Degree initiative re-engage students who had to stop their studies and help them finish their degree. Both efforts are part of the Movement 2030 cradle to career campaign by the Spartanburg Academic Movement (SAM).

    “SMC was established as a work-study institution dedicated to educating local workers to provide them with the skills and knowledge to improve their future. Our work with Movement 2030 and Re:Degree fits right into the core of our mission,” said SMC President Scott Cochran.
