STAR Fellowship Equips Educators to Shape Future Career Paths for Students

The Spartanburg Talent and Retention (STAR) Fellowship provided the county’s career development facilitators with first-hand exposure into current, and future, career outlooks and opportunities.
OneSpartanburg, Inc., in collaboration with the Spartanburg Academic Movement, launched the fellowship to better align internship, apprenticeship and mentorship opportunities with the needs of industries so students are aware – and prepared – for those opportunities.

“Participating in the STAR Fellowship was professionally invigorating,” said Lindsey Steven, Career Development Facilitator for Spartanburg School District 2. “I have never been so pumped and excited for the future of Spartanburg and its students. I hope to use the information shared to create meaningful opportunities for students and businesses in our area in a way that’s mutually beneficial.”

During the seven-month Fellowship, educators visited Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM), the Inland Port and observed expert panels designed to spark interest in high school internships.
OneSpartanburg and SAM are looking for other collaboration opportunities, possibly connecting school guidance counselors with similar information. These education professionals play a crucial role in students’ academic and career journeys, and arming them with these tools can future enhance their ability to guide students toward fulfilling career paths.
