Superintendent-In-Residence / K-12 Liaison

Dr. Darryl Owings joins SAM as Superintendent in Residence/K-12 Liaison. A lifetime resident and educator in Spartanburg, he spent 21 years as Superintendent of Schools in District 6. He is also a founding board director of SAM, where he recently stepped down to assume this new role. 

In this consulting role, Dr. Owings will leverage his extensive background in education to strengthen relationships and strategic partnerships within the K12 sector. His responsibilities include:

  • Building Relationships: Cultivating connections with superintendents, school administrators, and educational stakeholders within Spartanburg County Schools. Representing SAM at meetings and liaising with local and state educational partners.

  • Strategic Guidance: Aligning SAM's goals with the priorities of Spartanburg County Schools, ensuring effective communication and fostering collaboration.

  • Partnership Development: Collaborating with SAM's CEO to establish partnerships with new school districts, educational organizations, and community stakeholders. Supporting SAM's support in Union County and identifying opportunities for collaboration.

  • Advocacy and Policy: Assisting in the development of SAM's advocacy strategy and representing SAM in relevant policy discussions. Engaging stakeholders and mobilizing support for education-related policies.
